She wants to be an accountant. Fatu loves guitars. She has completed one year of music at Ballanta Academy in Freetown while being in regular school full time. She always has a mischievous smile and likes to explore the internet and unusual books. She wants to be an accountant. Isatu is a loving assistant housemother at Dove. Her tiny baby David is a highlight at the Dove compound. Isatu has a hard road ahead of her finishing high school while raising a baby but she has lots of siblings to help. She is determined to make something special of her life so that she can help other children in Sierra Leone have a better life. She is sweet and kind and a pleasure to be around. She is the oldest sister to Isata and Kadi S. Kadi J is the quietest Dove. She was found as a toddler in Kabala, abandoned when rebels invaded. Her parents were killed and a neighbour took care of her until Dove brought her home. She goes about her work singing to herself and spends her free time reading to improve her English. She is a peacemaker and quietly does what she can to resolve issues between her siblings. Although dyslexia means school work is difficult for her, she works extra hard to compensate and she gets very good grades. She is always the first to make thank you cards when she has been given a treat or gift. She brings joy to Dove. Kadi S is Dove's tomboy. She likes hiking and exploring and hanging out with the workers on projects. She does not like doing dishes and sometimes she is difficult to find on the compound when it is her turn. She was a baby, tied on her mother's back when rebels shot and killed her mother. She loves to take care of Effie and makes sure Effie has what she needs. Her entire life so far (she's 13) she has wanted to join the British Navy. If we are able to find a sponsor for regular school in England for 2 years, Kadi will be allowed to join their navy. This is her dream. She is sister to Isatu and Isata. Kathie is shy and quiet. She was found, as a toddler, in the bush in Kabala during the war. A grandmother found her and took her home and cared for her until Dove could give her a home. Kathie is sweet and kind and loves to be a helper. She rarely hides from her chores and isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes. Katimu was brought to Dove in 1998 as a little orphan girl who was forced to sell boiled eggs by an auntie that took her in. If the eggs didn't sell by the end of the day, Katimu was not given any food. She has blossomed into a very career oriented young woman who is in her second year of nursing. While she loves nursing, she says she can't stand the sight of blood or wounds. She is hoping to specialize in optometrists instead of child birth or trauma. She has currently moved into Freetown to be closer to her school and work. Katimu was brought to Dove in 1998 as a little orphan girl who was forced to sell boiled eggs by an auntie that took her in. She has completed her first year of voice at Ballanta Academy while holding down a full school schedule. She recently received a special award for her music. She always has a smile that lights up the classroom and the home. She doesn't like physical labour but she does love encouraging others and is always first to give hugs. She want to go into broadcasting and we know she will do well in front of a camera. Mamoud was rescued from child slavery in Kabala. He was orphaned as a tiny boy during the war. He was forced to collect and sell firewood. He was badly malnourished and very small for his size. Now he is our footballer. He wants to be an accountant and professional footballer. He has a gift with numbers and we know he will achieve his goals. Mamoud was rescued from child slavery in Kabala. He was orphaned as a tiny boy during the war. She is now a very bright young woman who assists in the Dove office. She is in her second year of Business Admin and has a terrific future ahead of her. She is dependable and sweet and a joy to be around. Mariama was rescued when she was orphaned by the war but then abused by her rescuers. Her entire torso was badly burned. 3 years ago the Mercy Ship hospital was docked in Liberia. We took Rugi to the ship where they were able to do surgery to help relieve the constant pain she experienced because of her scarring. Today she is the chief cook at the children's home. She will begin catering school shortly while continuing her job of feeding all the Dove kids. She is a hard worker and very excited to be able to get a degree in something she loves doing; cooking! Samuel K or SK as he is called at Dove, was orphaned during the war in Kabala in 1998. He has a bright, sunny disposition and has acted as a caring housefather to the Dove kids for the past couple years. His interests lay in IT and is currently in second year University in that field. SK has just 'left the nest' and moved in with college friends. We will continue being responsible for his education and some physical needs (to make sure he doesn't go hungry) until he completes his course. He will be sadly missed in the home but we look forward to many return visits from him. Santigie was brought to Dove during the war by a woman who found him abandoned. He was the same age as her son and even though she was a widow, she did her best to give him a home and feed him. She came to Dove for help when they began to starve. Santigie has a fantastic sense of humor and likes to pull pranks on his Dove siblings. He loves to dance and play soccer. He has difficulty learning in school but takes it in stride with his happy, easy going disposition. Santigie was brought to Dove during the war by a woman who found him abandoned. Even though counselled, she went ahead and had a baby boy who she loves dearly. Although she originally named her baby Daniel, she then changed his name to Henry. She has chosen, at the moment, not to continue her education or live at Dove but our prayer for her is that in the future she will change her mind and complete her education. She is sister to Kadi S and Isatu. We do provide aid to baby Henry (Daniel). Salma is Dove's eldest daughter. She always has a smile and hug for her siblings and staff. She is in college learning to be the best secretary she can be. She lives off site now with her friends. She hopes to have a future career helping run the administrative side of Dove. Effie is currently the little sister at Dove. She is severely limited physically due to Cerebral Palsy but she loves to sing, especially Dancing Queen by Abba. She enjoys school but does not like dogs. The Dove dogs are a bit too enthusiastic about protecting her and tend to lick her face a little too often for her liking. Effie loves being on the computer and watching funny movies. She is sweet even when her physio therapy causes her pain. Effie is currently the little sister at Dove.
