The trip so far . . .The work of International DOVE was born out of the vision of Phil and Judy Nelson, long time residents of Sierra Leone. Because of the civil war, they were forced to evacuate and return to Canada. In February 1998, a peacekeeping force reinstated the former president. It was then that Phil decided to return to Sierra Leone, in order to assess the needs of the people he had grown to love. Phil returned to Canada knowing that he had to do something to help the people of Sierra Leone. In the first five years, International DOVE was able to help almost 100 children by giving them a home, food, and training. Those are the children we were able to give "in-depth" help to, but that doesn't include hundreds more whose lives have been touched by other projects that we have had a part in. Because we try to work where no one else does, most of these children would have been without hope if our staff had not been there to help. Who are our partners? So much has been done as the result of help from others, including . . .You! Private donors and volunteers have made a huge impact on our work here! Hope For The Nations, who has been a major donor towards our children's village. Samaritan's Purse has been involved in many ways, including helping to fund our children's village and by allowing us to take part in Operation Christmas Child. Mercy Ships who has also helped to fund our new homes for the children. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Thanks to our friends in Canada for their help! The Canadian Military Sierra Leone contingent The Royal Navy (UK), also helping to fund the work and being involved in other ways. . . . and many, many others! |
